CEC Newsletter On-Line

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) has launched a new on-line resource on the environmental effects of free trade. The CEC is an international organization created by Canada, Mexico and the United States under the North American Agreement on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC), one of the NAFTA side agreements on labor and the environment. The CEC has been more proactive in discussing the linkages between trade and the environment than its counterpart labor institution and has received much more attention and critical support from the environmental community.

The first issue of the electronic bulletin Trio provides up-to-date information on CEC activities. The lead story is about a conference CEC is sponsoring on free trade and the environment. By providing a link to the Trio site, AmericasNet hopes to encourage greater dialogue on this subject.
